After leading the Facilities Management Training Advisory Group from its’ beginnings 12 years ago, Michael Gallagher, Director of Facilities for Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Hospitals NHS Trust, has resigned from the chair and the FM TAG, and handed over the reins to TIM LITHERLAND, Division Manager, Cumbria and Lancashire Strategic Health Authority. Tim, like Mike, is committed to meeting the training needs of staff enabling them to achieve the level of performance that is now expected.

Mike has chaired the TAG since 1994 and under his lead and guidance, the FM TAG have mounted numerous conferences, courses, lectures, workshops and master classes. The very first conference ADDING VALUE TO THE ORGANISATION THROUGH FACILITIES MANAGEMENT was held in May 1994. In that same year, the FM TAG, in liaison with the University of Strathclyde, mounted the NHS FACILITIES MANAGERS MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME, 1994-95. This was an accredited course leading to an MSc.

An annual feature of the FM TAG programme is the FACILITIES MANAGEMENT ANNUAL WORKSHOP. The first workshop was held in 1998 in the Lake District, Cumbria, and due to its’ popularity has continued. The two-day residential is usually held September/October time and as well as an excellent programme of speakers, provides the opportunity to spend two days away from office pressures, to be updated on current thinking and to network into the evening with friends and colleagues.

The FM TAG are currently looking at WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT AND SUCCESSION PLANNING and also, PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES FOR FACILITIES MANAGEMENT. Both key topics in the present climate.
