present a one-day seminar on

ESTABLISHING AND MANAGING BACKLOG MAINTENANCE

to be held on

THURSDAY, 28TH JULY 2005
at
THE CONFERENCE CENTRE,
Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust, Wrightington Hospital,
Hall Lane, Appley Bridge, Near Wigan

It is essential that the physical condition of the NHS estate is accurately assessed and maintained to ensure it is fit for purpose and safe for patients and staff.  Following consultation with the NHS, the technical monitoring definition of current backlog maintenance target is being revised with the introduction of Risk Adjusted Backlog Maintenance.  NHS organisations will need to reconsider their estate strategies in terms of this new approach.

The provision of backlog costs broken down by risk category together with a risk-adjusted backlog figure is a compulsory requirement within the ERIC 2004/05 data set for all trusts, including NHSFT’S.  The new methodology is supported by the SoS, Monitor and the Healthcare Commission.

The process of establishing and managing backlog should link with other systems of governance and risk management already in place.  It should not, therefore, impose any new burdens on NHS organisations.

The seminar will provide an overview of A RISK-BASED METHODOLOGY FOR ESTABLISHING AND MANAGING BACKLOG.  It will also clarify the meaning of BACKLOG; provide guidance on CONDITION APPRAISAL, SURVEYS AND PRACTICALITIES; RISK MANAGEMENT PLANS AS RELATED TO BACK LOG MAINTENANCE; SOFT WARE, FORMATTING AND DATA COLLECTION.

IN ADDITION, APPLICANTS ARE BEING ENCOURAGED TO INDICATE ANY SPECIFIC AREAS THEY WOULD LIKE ADDRESSING ON THE DAY AND OUR PRESENTERS WILL ENDEAVOUR TO COVER ALL THE POINTS RAISED.
